Biography

Carol Ann Scott is a retired British Businesswoman, Artist and Interior Furnishings Designer, living in the historic region of Gascony, South West France.

 

During her youth, she became a Model for International Hair Stylist Vidal Sassoon, the School Games Captain, and a 100M Sprint Runner for her County of Yorkshire, England. In 1976, aged just sixteen, she exhibited at The Royal Academy in London, England.

She gained 'O' and 'A' levels in English Language, English Literature, History, Art, French and Latin.

In 1983, after five years of college education, with work placements in Paris, Milan and London, she gained a BA (Honours) Degree in Textiles/Fashion from

Trent University, Nottingham, England. She was also awarded The Royal Society of Arts Bursary for Colour and The Courtauld Award.

 

She moved back to her hometown of Skipton, Yorkshire, England, and began her thirty-nine-year working career.

From the early years as a Knitwear Designer, in 1987, she moved to the Lake District and became the Design Director of a large Knitwear and Clothing Company, called Jumpers.  She travelled internationally to source top quality manufacturers in China, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Portugal.

In 1990, she started her own Freelance Knitwear Design Company whilst raising her two sons, Oliver and Oscar.

In 1993, she joined her husband's International Company that retailed Classic Character clothing and Gifts, with fourteen shops, a mail-order business and four websites. She designed exclusive clothing, ceramics, soft toys and books, working closely with Publishers and Intellectual Property Consultants. 

 

In 2003, she moved to South-West France, with her husband and two young sons, and for the next twenty-two years, they operated their own Craft business, creating bespoke Wood Furniture and soft furnishings for their European clients.

 

In 2007, she was invited to become a Village Councillor and served for 12 years.

Additionally, she has served as President and Treasurer of two local French Associations.

 

With her European Heritage, she has honed her communication skills in French, Italian and German. She is currently learning Spanish. Her part Irish Heritage has helped maintain her warmth, wit and sense of humour.

She raises awareness and funds for local charities, with donations, time and energy given in organising local events.

 

A Royalist at heart,  she and her husband met the Royal family at Buckingham Palace in 2000, in recognition of their years of service to promote International Tourism and Trade.   

Her main hobbies include  Art, History, Languages, Genealogy, Travel and Gardening. She is passionate about Roses, and has a Collection of over 125 French and English varieties.

 

In her role as Royal Chamberlain, she acts as a trusted intermediary, supporting the functioning of the  Royal Household by overseeing matters of protocol and internal administration. She assures the dignity, continuity and representation of the House by working with the Sovereign and the Household, to promote clarity and consistency, through open, honest and transparent dialogue.
