Membership Requirements of the Uí Bhrolcháin Clan Association

Membership in the Uí Bhrolcháin Clan Association is open to individuals who meet one of the recognised categories of kinship, heritage, or service as defined by the Ceann Fine and the Derbfine. Eligibility is determined according to Gaelic custom, genealogical continuity, and the cultural mission of the Clan.

1. Clann Fola — Bloodline Members

Individuals who can demonstrate descent—through the paternal or maternal line—from any of the following:

  • The historic Uí Bhrolcháin lineage

  • Surnames derived from the clan: Ua Bhrolcháin, O’Brolchain, O’Brollaghan, and documented variants

  • The Gaelic Bradley line connected to the House of Bradley–Ua Bhrolcháin

This is the core hereditary membership.

 

2. Clann Dílse — Affiliated Members

Those joined to the Clan through:

  • Marriage

  • Adoption

  • Recognised familial incorporation

These members participate fully in cultural and ceremonial life while acknowledging the hereditary primacy of Clann Fola.

 

3. Clann Onóra — Honorary Members

Individuals who, though not of bloodline, have rendered:

  • notable service

  • cultural contribution

  • scholarly support

  • loyalty to the Clan or its mission

Honorary membership is granted by the Ceann Fine, often with the advice of the Derbfine.

 

4. Clann Óg — Youth Members

Children and young persons connected to the Clan through:

  • bloodline

  • family affiliation

  • guardianship

They are recognised as the rising generation of the kindred and may later enter adult membership categories.

 

Additional Requirements

A. Acceptance of the Clan Charter

All members must acknowledge the authority of the Clan Charter as issued under the Hand and Seal of the Ceann Fine.

B. Swearing of the Membership Oath

Members affirm loyalty, heritage, and kinship through the formal Oath of the Uí Bhrolcháin, sworn before the Ceann Fine or his representative.

C. Recognition by the Ceann Fine

Final authority for admission rests with:

  • The Ceann Fine Uí Bhrolcháin, with the Derbfine advising when appropriate.

Those who can trace descent—through either parent—from the historic Uí Bhrolcháin lineage or its recognised surname forms (Ua Bhrolcháin, O’Brolchain, O’Brollaghan, Bradley of the Gaelic line).

2. Affiliated Members (Clann Dílse)

Spouses, adopted family members, and those formally incorporated into the Clan through recognised familial bonds.

3. Honorary Members (Clann Onóra)

Individuals who have rendered notable service, cultural contribution, or support to the Clan or its mission. Admission is granted by the Ceann Fine.

4. Youth Members (Clann Óg)

Children and young persons connected to the Clan through family, guardianship, or heritage.

 

What Membership Involves

All members of the Uí Bhrolcháin Clan Association:

  • Acknowledge the Clan Charter

  • Uphold the dignity and traditions of the Clan

  • Participate in the cultural mission of preserving our heritage

  • Swear the Membership Oath (in person or in writing)

Membership is ceremonial, cultural, and genealogical in nature. It carries no political or legal obligations.

  2. Provide Genealogical or Familial Information (if applicable) Bloodline applicants may include any known ancestry, surnames, or family history. Affiliated and honorary applicants may describe their connection or contribution.
