The Royal Chamberlain of the House of Bradley, Her Grace Duchess Carol Ann Scott, DGCMROHB CD, stands as a principal officer of the Royal Household and a trusted custodian of its dignity, continuity, and ceremonial order. A distinguished British businesswoman, designer, and civic leader with a lifetime of international experience, she brings to the House a rare combination of artistic refinement, administrative acumen, and diplomatic poise.

Her Grace’s long career across the United Kingdom, Europe, and beyond—spanning design leadership, cultural stewardship, community service, and charitable engagement—has shaped her into a figure of exceptional capability and integrity.

In her role as Royal Chamberlain, she serves as the Sovereign’s intermediary in matters of protocol and internal administration, ensuring clarity, consistency, and the smooth functioning of the Royal Household. Through open and transparent dialogue, she upholds the ceremonial standards of the House of Bradley and supports its mission with unwavering loyalty, discretion, and grace.

Biography

Carol Ann Scott is a retired British Businesswoman, Artist, and Interior Furnishings Designer, living in Gascony, South West France.

In 1976, aged sixteen, she became a Model for the International Hair Stylist Vidal Sassoon, the School Games Captain, and a 100M Sprint Runner for her County of Yorkshire, England. The same year, she exhibited at The Royal Academy in London, England. 

She gained 'O' and 'A' levels in English Language, English Literature, History, Art, French and Latin.

In 1983, after five years of  college education, with work placements in Paris, Milan and London, she gained a BA (Honours) Degree in Textiles/Fashion from

Trent University, Nottingham, England. She was also awarded The Royal Society of Arts Bursary for Colour and The Courtauld Award.

From her early years working for Sarah Dallas, an International Knitwear Designer, in 1987, she was head-hunted to become the Design Director of a Knitwear and Clothing Company named Jumpers.  She travelled internationally to source top quality manufacturers in China, Hong Kong, Mauritius and Portugal.

In 1990, she started her own Freelance Knitwear Design Company.

In 1993, she joined her husband's International Company, specialising in Classic Character Clothing and Gifts, with fourteen shops, a mail-order business and four websites. She designed clothing, ceramics, soft toys and books, and worked closely with British Publishers such as Frederick Warne, Harper Collins and Intellectual Property Consultants, to ensure her artwork met the stringent standards required.

She and her husband, Martin, were invited to The Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in 2000, in recognition of their years of service to promote International Tourism and Trade. 

In 2003, she moved to Gascony, South-West France, with her husband and two young sons. Over the following twenty-two years, they designed, produced and retailed their bespoke Wood Furniture and soft furnishings for their European clients. 

In 2007, she was invited to become a Village Councillor and served for 13 years. She has also served as President and Treasurer of two local French Associations.

She raises awareness and vital funds for local charities, giving donations, time and energy in organising events.

With her European Heritage, she has honed her communication skills in French, Italian, German and Spanish. Her Irish Heritage has helped maintain her warmth, wit and sense of humour. 

Her main hobbies include  Art, History, Languages, Genealogy, Travel and Gardening. 

In her role as Royal Chamberlain, she acts as a trusted intermediary, supporting the functioning of the  Royal Household by overseeing matters of protocol and internal administration. She assures the dignity, continuity and representation of the House by working closely with the Sovereign and Household, to promote clarity and consistency, through open, honest and transparent dialogue.
